About the Investment Strategy

Legg Mason Australian Equities believes that there are investment opportunities to be found in Australian small companies, and that experience, expertise and discipline are required to exploit these opportunities. We believe that companies are worth the present value of their prospective cash flows. However, in small companies the concept of long-term earnings can be difficult to ascertain, necessitating the use of a range of tools to evaluate underlying securities. We seek to understand why a stock trades at today's price. We identify key drivers and look for catalysts that may propel earnings. Valuation is one criteria used. Other measures may include the analysis of: a company's business model, its industry structure, management track record and growth ambitions. We also pay attention to stock liquidity and other trading data.

The Trust typically holds securities listed on the Australian Stock Exchange that are outside the largest 100 as measured by market capitalisation.
